New year, improved you

by | Jan 8, 2024

I always like to view ourselves as a work in progress. I always follow the saying, “progress not perfection”, this way, even the smallest changes that we make are meaningful. As a new year commences it is only natural to want to reflect on the previous year(s). We are now one week into the new year so we may still be setting ourselves new goals for 2024. So, I’d like to invite you to use this creative tool.

The tool: writing a letter to ourselves, one that isn’t sealed in case we feel the need to refer to it during the year. This letter has two main purposes, writing down our goals / vision for 2024 and writing down the resources we can use to overcome any foreseeable or unforeseeable challenges.  This can be related to any areas in life, for example, your business, family time, self-investment and so on. Here is an example:

“Dear Susie,

This year I would like my goal to be spending 30 mins a day, twice a week focusing on myself, e.g. yoga/meditation practices, journalling, sitting down with a cup of tea and a book. The potential challenges in reaching my goal will be setting my boundaries with my family, feeling guilty, and telling myself that I am not a priority. The resources/qualities to help overcome these challenges are self-compassion, knowing my worth as an individual, receiving additional support, planning my time effectively, and practicing when to say no to others and yes to myself.

All the best and you’ve got this,

Susie”

I invite you to get creative with this letter. The more personal it feels, the better. Use colours, quotes, doodles, and anything else to help inspire you. This is a great resource that you can refer to when you’re feeling demotivated / uninspired / lacking purpose.

If you have any questions about this letter or if you’re struggling with what to write, do feel free to get in touch.

Wishing you all a healthy 2024!
